Born in the rubble of Irpinia. Risen through passion and perseverance. Today, it is the global symbol of refined elegance.
How Feudi di San Gregorio rewrote the story of Southern Italian Wine !

In the heart of Campania, where the earth once trembled and livelihoods crumbled in the aftermath of devastating earthquakes, Feudi di San Gregorio was born, not from privilege, but from vision. It rose from the ashes of Irpinia, a region long marginalized in Italy’s wine discourse and reimagined what southern Italy could offer the world.
What began in 1986 as a bold commitment to terroir and tradition is now one of Italy’s most respected wine estates. Feudi di San Gregorio is more than a winery. It is a cultural movement, a design marvel and a sanctuary for luxury travelers seeking the soulful rhythm of Southern Italy.

The Roots: From Earthquake to Empire
In the early 1980s, Irpinia, in the province of Avellino, was reeling from a catastrophic earthquake. Agriculture was in decline, local grape varieties were neglected and the idea of fine wine from the South was often dismissed with a smirk.
It was then that a group of passionate entrepreneurs, led by the Capaldo and Ercolino families, set out to revive Irpinia’s viticulture heritage. They believed in the potential of native grape varieties like Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo and Taurasi and refused to replace them with trendier, international alternatives.
Their unwavering belief in Irpinia’s land, people and grapes became the foundation of Feudi di San Gregorio

The Vineyards and Terroir: Celebrating Native Varietals
Feudi di San Gregorio cultivates over 300 hectares of vineyards, nestled among the rolling hills of Irpinia, between 350 and 700 metres above sea level. This unique geography, shaped by volcanic soils, altitude and diurnal temperature shifts, creates wines of precision, minerality and longevity.

The vineyards are fragmented across multiple micro terroirs, each giving distinct expressions of native grapes.

- Fiano di Avellino: Refined, floral and capable of remarkable aging.
- Greco di Tufo: Bold, mineral driven and structured.
- Taurasi (Aglianico): Known as the “Barolo of the South”, intense, elegant and age worthy.
- Piedirosso and Falanghina: Lesser known gems with incredible potential.

The Cellar: A Temple of Wine and Design
The cellar of Feudi di San Gregorio is more than a production facility. It is an architectural masterpiece, blending functionality with expressive art and avant grade aesthetics.

The Japanese architect “Hikaru Mori” envisioned the winery as a suspended structure floating within the vineyards. It features large glass windows, reflective pools and geometric harmony that merge seamlessly with the natural surroundings.
Icons of Italian design, Massimo and Lella Vignelli curated the label designs, font and visual identity of Feudi. Their minimalist, modernist aesthetic shaped the winery’s global brand presence. They believed in elegance through simplicity, a philosophy across every bottle and space within Feudi.
Feudi has collaborated with numerous artists, artisans and designers who transformed the winery into a living museum of contemporary creativity. Each space reflects the winery’s commitment to culture and beauty, turning wine into a sensorial, intellectual and emotional journey.
